Letter From the President
October 2006
Dear Friend,
When KidsTerrain incorporated in July 2000 our mission was to provide resources and tools that help children and the individuals involved in their lives, develop self-esteem, create an environment for positive growth, and manage issues encountered through all phases of life. We set out to accomplish this by providing services and products specifically designed and developed for children, families, and other caring individuals.
In our extensive outreach to parents and children we recognized the rippling effect of the home with outside environments. This led us, in 2004, to expand our mission to include teachers, and this year, to extend to employers.
This evolution of our mission required that we adopt an all-inclusive direction for KidsTerrain, one in which each area of need is distinctly and separately recognized.
KidsTerrain now has three distinct neighborhoods
- HomeTerrain
- SchoolTerrain
- WorkTerrain
The Three Neighborhoods of KidsTerrain each acknowledge and address the complete affect of these environments on the lives of children, families, and workers.
HomeTerrain. In keeping with our original mission, HomeTerrain is for children, their parents, family members, and other caregivers. Resources and tools are provided through our interactive web site, www.kidsterrain.com, and our specially developed products, such as books and CDs. All of the HomeTerrain products and programs are theme-oriented with messages denoting healthy attitudes, such as self esteem, good nutrition practice, increasing social awareness, to name a few.
The Parents' Message Boards & blogs provide information on a wide-range of topics including, but not limited to: sports rage, bullying, our country at war, and other timely, provocative topics of interest.
SchoolTerrain. KidsTerrain's theme-oriented messages certainly are not limited to the home. That's why we developed a number of programs for children and teachers.
SchoolTerrain for Children provides a series of programs to children aged 4-11 in their classrooms, at recreation centers, on field trips. All of the programs are theme-based with the goal of instilling positive attitudes in children. The programs utilize children's magicians, puppeteers, singers, songwriters, and storytellers to instill healthy feelings in children.
SchoolTerrain for Teachers offers workshops and programs to teachers that provide them with the necessary tools to deal with the cadre of issues facing them in the classroom on a daily basis, such as the changing landscape of families, cultural differences, special needs issues, to name a few. KidsTerrain understands that contented and well-trained teachers provide educational and interactive environments that augment children's learning.
These positive environments enable children to feel safe, allow them to be heard, and assist them in growing into well-adjusted individuals. In addition, SchoolTerrain workshops are interactive, educational, and fun programs that promote healthy attitudes for children and teachers.
WorkTerrain. It is not uncommon for employees to take their life challenges to work with them. This often leads to absenteeism and worker distraction. Our WorkTerrain programs are designed to minimize nonwork-related distractions and enhance mental and physical health. The scope of our WorkTerrain programs is twofold:
- Address the impact on employers when employees take their family/life challenges to work with them; and
- Speak to the impact that work-related stress has on family life.
WorkTerrain programs address challenges surrounding child issues, elder care, psychological and physical health, advocacy, goal-setting, coaching, resiliency, balancing work/life experiences, stress management, time management, and setting boundaries and limitations, to name a new.
KidsTerrain provides our messages utilizing a variety of communication channels: Blogs, webinars, discussion boards are all available on our webinar. In addition, we provide onsite workshops at schools and employer locations.
KidsTerrain will continue to be guided by advisory panels that provide important feedback to the founders, officers, and board members on company direction and program development. Many of our valued programs and services were developed with assistance from a roster of experienced parents/ other caregivers, educators, employers, and medical professionals.
I invite you to visit our web site often to stay abreast of the ever-evolving and ever-present neighborhood we call KidsTerrain.
