Each year, millions of Americans are diagnosed with eating disorders, and 90% of those diagnosed are adolescent and young women. Even more alarming, this number has doubled since the 1960s, with the age groups getting younger, as young as seven years of age.

This webinar, presented by Rebecca L. Manley, President and Founder of the Multiservice Eating Disorders Association, (MEDA), offers recommendations for helping children develop a healthy body image. Parents and other caregivers will learn to:

  • Identify factors that affect body confidence
  • Understand the link with eating disorders
  • Understand thoughts and feelings surrounding their own bodies
  • Help their child develop positive attitudes about his or her body

What this webinar will cover:
In addition, other body image issues and concerns examined include:

  • The affects of the media and advertising on body confidence
  • Media's emphasis on beauty and perfectionism
  • Our cultural obsession with slenderness
  • Purging behavior: what to look for

Despite the media bombardment, we can teach our children to have a healthy body image. Throughout this webinar, Ms. Manley will guide you through the necessary steps to help your child become more accepting of his or her body, and the bodies of others. Methods discussed are:

  • Expressing Emotion
  • The five A's to body confidence
  • Re-framing negative messages
  • Developing Positive self-talk
