Achievement
Summary: Raising achievement levels for our students is every teacher's concern. Administrators and teachers seek ways to close achievement gaps by creating instructional and other classroom conditions responsive to a student's interests and challenges.
Recognizing behavior issues that may indicate a learning disability, excessive absenteeism, test anxiety, and external stress factors all affect a child's achievement level.
Effective communication with parents is also vital to our students' achievement.
Some of the questions you may want to ask your students are:
- How do you feel about the upcoming test?
- Do you have any questions about your class assignments?
- Do you feel comfortable asking questions in class?
- Is there anything or anyone in the classroom that distracts your attention?
Some of the issues you may want to discuss with your students' parents about achievement are:
- The importance of helping children with and reviewing their homework.
- Any family discord issues you should know about.
- How excessive absenteeism affects a child's learning curve.
- Talking with their kids about test-related anxiety.
