About WorkTerrain – FAQs
I am intrigued by the name, WorkTerrain. Where does it come from?
When KidsTerrain, our parent company, incorporated in July 2000, our mission was to provide resources and tools that help children and the individuals involved in their lives, develop self-esteem, create an environment for positive growth, and manage issues encountered through all phases of life. We set out to accomplish this by providing services and products specifically designed and developed for children, families, and other caring individuals.
In our extensive outreach to parents and children, we recognized the rippling effect of the home with outside environments. This led us in 2004, to expand our mission to include teachers, and in 2006, to extend to employers.
In order to reflect this expanded mission, we created 3 neighborhoods on the web site:
- HomeTerrain — for Parents
- SchoolTerrain — for Teachers
- WorkTerrain —for Employers and Employees
What can WorkTerrain offer my business?
WorkTerrain realizes that workers are often met with the dilemma of integrating their workplace responsibilities with the nurturing responsibilities of family life, whether it be children, aging parents or general life issues. We also know that this can impact employers both in terms of absenteeism and worker distraction. Knowing this, we offer programs that strengthen the bridge between work and family life.
How does WorkTerrain do this?
Our WorkTerrain division provides resources and programs for the workplace that enable employers to meet organizational goals, employees to work productively, and ultimately attain work/life balance. We do this through our informational web site, onsite training programs, customized e-newsletters, and webinars that deal with issues of today, to name a few initiatives.
What do you mean by work/life balance?
Work/life balance is about having a measure of control over your work life and your family/personal life in order to attain and maintain an optimal quality of life. Employees who have more say over their working time feel less stressed and are more satisfied with and committed to their work.
How would we work together?
There are myriad ways you and your employees can benefit from WorkTerrain as a resource:
- You can direct employees to our informational, free access web site, www.kidsterrain.com. Our web is separated into 3 interlocking sections called neighborhoods:
- HomeTerrain — for parents;
- SchoolTerrain — for teachers;
- WorkTerrain — for employers and employees.
Some employees may elect to access the resources in all three neighborhoods while others may only need one. Regardless, the KidsTerrain website is designed to provide resources for employees in dealing with real life challenges. It is dynamic and ever-changing to reflect the current issues of today.
- The web site offers many resources aimed at assisting employees in finding information and solutions to work/life challenges. A sample includes:
- Customized onsite workshops on topics of concern to your business, such as stress management training, consultation and coaching. WorkTerrain has an extensive list of specialty consultants such as nutritionists, physical therapists, alternative therapeutic specialists, professional coaches, motivational speakers, public speaking consultants, to name a few.
- Access to grant funded employee safety training programs in areas such as stress management and ergonomics.
- Customized, informative e-newsletters for employers to disseminate to employees.
- And... WorkTerrain works with employers to accommodate the individual company and employee requirements.
