What is meditation?
In the course of our day we are constantly subjected to sensory input, which keeps our minds always active and in the thinking process. Meditation is a means to quieting the mind—of finding your quiet space. It is a self-directed effort to relax the body and calm the mind.

Meditation is a means by which you "allow" the mind to settle down and become more peaceful, calm and focused.
What are the benefits of meditation?
The most common benefits are:

- an ability to handle daily problems in a calmer and more relaxed manner
- a new perspective on "problems" and "difficulties"

Are there physiological effects of meditation?
Yes. The most common physiological effects are
- improved breathing
- reduced blood pressure
- lower pulse rate
- decreased metabolic rate
How long should I meditate?
When first learning to Find Your Quiet Space, it is good to establish about 5-10 minutes. After a while, you may be able to meditate for longer periods of time. Many people find great benefit in meditating and they work up to 30 minutes each day. Some even meditate twice daily. But the right duration and frequency is for you to decide.
Are there key points I should know about Finding My Quiet Space?
- If possible, practice meditation at the same time each day. Morning is usually the best time to meditate, but meditation can be practiced at any time of day.
- Locate a quiet, comfortable place that is free from interruptions. If possible, make this "quiet space" your place each day.
- In the course of a day, practice mini-meditation moments-2-3 minutes will do-especially during stressful periods. This practice will rejuvenate you and keep you from accumulating stress.
