September 11 Inspires Tiny Acts of Kindness

WILMINGTON, MA-Shortly after the September 11 attacks, Maggie Moran, president and CEO of KidsTerrain, Inc., realized that the company had to address the horrific events of that day for the children.

"I spoke with my creative team and we decided that music would be a good way to reach the children," Ms. Moran said. "Songwriters Jamie Notarthomas and Rita Schiano (The Magic in Me) were asked to create a song for KidsTerrain that addressed the events surrounding September 11."

"Our first thought was to talk about the heroes of the day-the firefighters, police officers, the EMTs," said Rita Schiano. "But as we reflected on the impact the terrorist attack had on kids, and as we heard and read about the visits to fire stations, the drawings and hugs, the outpouring of love from children, the message of the song became clear. It was the tiny acts of kindness that made all the difference.

And now the song Tiny Acts of Kindness, a moving tribute to the goodwill of children everywhere, has inspired a number of people across the country. In a letter to KidsTerrain customers, Ms. Moran expressed a wish to make the CD available to the families of 9/11 victims. "Our company is relatively new and so we cannot not financially achieve the results we desired without assistance," Moran explained in the letter.

Contributions began to pour in from across the country. On June 15, KidsTerrain will begin sending the Tiny Acts of Kindness CD to the victims' families, starting with Boston. "Many people in our own backyard lost family and loved ones since two of the flights originated out of Logan Airport," Moran said.

"Although we wrote Tiny Acts of Kindness for children, I've been overwhelmed by the adults' response to the song," Schiano said. "When we've played it at Kids Expos, I've seen grown-ups eyes well with tears."

"Tiny Acts of Kindness is a beautiful, moving song. I believe that will one day it be considered a classic," Moran added.

The Tiny Acts of Kindness- CD is being distributed via the KidsTerrain web site, www.kidsterrain.com, and through select stores throughout the country. You may also order direct by calling 978-658-2131.
