New Voices Publishing Announces New Release
Learning Life's Lessons
"Someone Took Vanessa's Bike is the story of a realistic occurrence in the life of a child: her bike is stolen. But it is more. [The story] provides a wonderful opportunity for parents, grandparents, teachers and all those who care about children to share a story with a message that is valuable and long-lasting."
- John Farrell, fifth grade teacher at Howard County Maryland Public Schools
Wilmington, MA-KidsTerrain, Inc. announces the release of the third book in a series of illustrated children's books from its New Voices Publishing division. The stories are intended to help children and the adults in their lives create a healthy and helpful dialogue regarding issues facing children in everyday life. Someone Took Vanessa's Bike, written by KidsTerrain founder Maggie Moran with colorful illustrations by Chie Sasaki, features 7-year old Vanessa, one of the six multicultural KidsTerrain kids.
Vanessa loves her new bike. Now she can bike around the neighborhood with her best friends, Kate and Beth. But one day, Vanessa's friends ask her to bike to their favorite comic book store.
At first, Vanessa's mother is reluctant to let her go. Her bike is brand new and they haven't yet bought a lock for it. Vanessa's reassures her mother she will stay outside with her bike; that she will not go into the store.
Actions have consequences... Despite her promises to her mother, Vanessa makes a decision that teaches her a difficult, yet valuable lesson. Having to deal with the consequences of our decisions and actions is never easy. For a child, the consequences are much more difficult to understand.
In Someone Took Vanessa's Bike, Vanessa learns what it feels like to make a decision about her new bike and to have to deal with the outcome of that decision.
Someone Took Vanessa's Bike is written for children, their parents, and the other adults in their lives. The author provides questions at the end of the story to aid adults in an open dialogue with their children.
Someone Took Vanessa's Bike by Maggie Moran is available for $14.95 at local bookstores or by calling New Voices Publishing at 978-658-2131. Original edition, 710, 28 pages, original color illustrations by Chie Sasaki. ISBN: 1-931642-03-6.
